VARK Analysis Paper

VARK Analysis Paper NRS-429

Identifying individuals learning styles of all learners is necessary to good performance in the health promotion sector. In most cases, educators assume this great responsibility to determine how to handle best and teach learners, which has a long time stagnated their (learners) educational performance and health promotion outcomes (Liew et al., 2015). The purpose of this paper is to conduct a VARK analysis and discuss the overall value of learning styles.

Personal Learning Styles According to VARK Questionnaire

VARK questionnaire has been one of the best ways of analyzing students’ preferred learning strategies to improve their educational performance and service delivery in various sectors they get an opportunity to work in after school. According to the VARK questionnaire, my learning styles are Aural, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic.

Aural learning style entails listening to the teacher and engaging in discussions with people who have some knowledge or interest in learning the same thing. Aural learning strategy requires attentiveness to the sound of the one offering the lesson. Under the read/write learning strategy, notes, texts, handouts are an excellent and reliable source of knowledge (Bhagat, Vyas, & Singh 2015).

I prefer having the notes because I can refer to them in the future if I am unable to reach out to the teacher. When notes are preserved well, they can also be helpful for consultation in discussion sessions. Finally, after answering the VARK questionnaire questions, the kinesthetic style appeared to be one of my best learning styles.

Engaging in practical exercises creates a lasting impression in my brain. Learning through examples makes it easy to understand something because you can learn the whole procedure of doing something that is supposed to be done step by step (Bhagat, Vyas, & Singh 2015). It is tough to forget what you have ever seen, unlike what you just read being explained in books without practically doing it.

Preferred Learning Strategies

My preferred learning strategies are Kinesthetic, aural, and read/write strategies. I mostly prefer the Kinesthetic approach because I find it easy to learn through practical examples and case studies. Practical examples boost my confidence in doing things and handling similar tasks if assigned by the teacher.

My second best learning strategy is aural, which involves listening and engaging in focused group discussions. Through this, I learn what is required of me by the teacher and improve my communication skills, which are essential in handling day-to-day life issues. Finally, reading and writing notes as the teacher is teaching ensures I concentrate throughout the whole class, which is very necessary for good performance in my academics.

Effect on Educational Performance and importance of identifying Learning Styles for Learners as an Educator

Learning styles are essential to the educational performance of the learners.  For example, some learners prefer doing things practically because they can remember what they learn. Additionally, other learners don’t love writing or reading notes. They would like practical examples or listen or watch a video with visual and graphical presentations of what they should learn (Liew et al., 2015). Through this, learning is made interesting, enhancing their educational performance because they do what they love most.

The first step of becoming a successful educator is identifying the individual learning styles of your learners. Once the learning styles are identified, the tutoring work becomes more comfortable, and the educator can subgroup the learners where each group will consist of learners with similar preferred styles.

For example, when he wants to handle a particular topic, he will prepare notes and handouts, audio and video presentations, and equipment that can be used to study the matter in question practically. The educator will assign the group that loves read/write style a task where they are supposed to explore the topic, discuss the key issues and write a summary of what they learn.

The second group will be given a video to listen to and finally answer questions or summarize what they learn. The last group can be given the required equipment to practically try doing what the educator needs from them and finally compile and submit their findings. Through doing this, the learners will be able to get the concepts better and easily because they will all be feeling part and parcel of the class sine they participated in answering questions or writing summary and findings of the topic in question hence giving the educator a smooth teaching session (Liew et al., 2015).

Learning Styles and Health Promotion

Health promotion outcomes will only be successful if the different individuals’ learning styles are applied accordingly. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the different learning styles that each individual possesses. This will enable the educator to know the best approach to use when teaching various topics. Once the right method is used, the learners will be able to get the concepts rightly and correctly deliver their health services in the future.

Forcing a wrong learning style on an individual may lead to a change of behavior and attitude towards the teacher and the subject, which will finally negatively affect the general performance. Therefore, identifying and utilizing various individual learning styles is essential for learners’ performance and health promotion outcomes (Mozaffari et al., 2020).

Health promotion is a vast field hence making it easy for the application of different learning styles. For example, health promotion topics require reading and writing notes, watching and listening to the video and audio clips that show and explaining how various disorders should be treated, and performing practical experiences and observations.

Conclusion

Learning styles of all learners is necessary for good performance in the health promotion sector. Therefore, educators need to identify the learning styles that can be made uncomplicated by issuing the learners with the VARK analysis questionnaire. This enables the educators to determine how their learners would love to be taught and handled.
