The phases of life are the many stages that all people go through in their lifetime. Most people have mutual activities, activities, and mannerisms at each level. The human life cycle has defined intricacies (Eatough, 2022). All individuals are unique; they feel, think, and experience things differently as they age.

The shift to a new stage of life is frequently marked by a major change in lifestyle. The four phases of life, as identified by Eatough (2022), include childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and old age. This paper examines these stages and how they influence healthcare.

What transpires in childhood can have long-term implications on the patient’s life. Traumatic experiences in childhood can negatively impact cognitive well-being in puberty and beyond, leading to various health and behavioral issues (Eatough, 2022).

The social position in society, which includes socioeconomic class, race and culture, and gender, influences how well patients do throughout the phases of life. As Swezey et al. (2019) note, people engage with the medical system as they move through the phases of life to meet their various health concerns. People receive care differently throughout this journey.

With the development of various diseases from the beginning of time, vaccinations are essential throughout each stage of life, and missing them may cause adverse health outcomes at different stages of life. As people age, they become increasingly susceptible to numerous health disorders, requiring them to contact the medical system more frequently than when they were youthful (Swezey et al., 2019). I will interview my grandmother, who is 85 years old, about her experiences in the health care system throughout her life

Both the mother and the fetus are in danger throughout pregnancy and delivery. Although pregnancy is a new stage of life, it can also be the end of life owing to difficulties associated with delivery (WHO, 2018). It is critical to ensure that health systems offer expert care to women and their newborn babies by fostering a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach and emphasizing the necessity of coordinated efforts at all levels involving relatives, community, health workers, and policymakers.

Infancy lasts from birth to eighteen months and is defined by the infant’s bond with their caregiver. When a youngster is well cared for, they grow to trust their parent or guardian. If they are ignored, they will most likely transfer their mistrust onto relationships in the latter phases of their lives (Eatough, 2022). This may be extended to health, where an individual may suffer from mental problems and believe that a health care practitioner is attempting to poison them.

When a toddler’s sense of identity and self is supported, it develops their independence; but, if a preschooler is scolded for their curiosity, they may develop emotions of shame, self-doubt, and guilt. These fears may impede their personal development because confidence is required to progress as a human being (Eatough, 2022).

Further, a study by the World Health Organization (2018) showed that children who grow up in violent households are more exposed to physical and mental abuse and are more likely to suffer health issues throughout their lives.

Policymakers should pay more attention to adolescent health in particular. A lot of teens suffer from depression. Even though teens have significantly developed, they still rely on their parents to make judgments about how they engage with the healthcare system. Adulthood begins at 18, and as folks age, their medical requirements increase dramatically.

After 60 years, the body’s systems and organs slow down, and the immune response decreases, which is why people in this age group make up the majority of those in need of healthcare services (WHO, 2018). Again impacts of lifestyle choices begin to become apparent, and patients start to develop lifestyle diseases like diabetes and hypertension. This makes the older adults more prone to be taking daily medications.

Patients see medical care differently, and as they age, they grow more concerned about how the treatment is given, probably because of their prior experiences and the knowledge gained over the years (Grocott & McSherry, 2018). Children may lack the ability to reflect on and discuss their health care experiences and concerns, whereas young people may be preoccupied with how care is given.

Adolescents may be afraid of disclosing their health conditions to the HCW due to shame of sexually transmitted diseases or deteriorating mental health (Grocott & McSherry, 2018).  However, the elderly have the opportunity to reflect, and these claims underscore the impact of aging on healthcare.

  1. Do you feel that your stage of life had any effect on your interaction with health care professionals?

Yes. My stage of life has affected my interaction with HCW as several times I have been ill, and they have come through for me. Talk of the time I had secondary post-partum hemorrhage, and I did not realize it until I collapsed in town and found myself at the E/R. My Hb at the time was 3.4, and the nurses and doctors did everything to ensure I got a blood transfusion, considering I am blood group O-. My baby was brought to me at the hospital by a social worker.

  1. Which areas of the hospital or clinic were most concerned with your well-being and feelings?

I felt the most care at the antenatal, postnatal, and maternity clinics. I was given full advice on how to take care of my pregnancy full term. During my caesarian section, I was able to stay in the hospital for 3 weeks as my son needed neonatal intensive care. The nurses were exceptionally kind and always gave me hope when I thought my son would not survive.

My family was not with me during all my hospital admissions, but I found a family in the hospital fraternity
