Career Preparation Paper

Career Preparation Paper

Exploring courses is essential in professional development planning. Individuals who work with certain expectations or goals in mind also have greater success degrees. Researching the available career opportunities ensures that an individual knows the available options and prepares for them. Career preparation is thus an educative activity that greatly influences decision-making and focuses among students. This essay will explore a program related to the intended professional and discusses the knowledge from the research and how it will influence decisions.

Career Opportunities

The advanced degree of interest is a Bachelor of Science in Professional Development and Advanced Patient Care. The career opportunities with the most appeal based on research are Admissions desk supervisor, clinical manager, health services manager, healthcare manager, medical manager, and health system analyst (Learn.org. n.d.). These careers majorly involve care coordination and management.

The degree will help with skill mix, and its attention to current details ensures professionals remain relevant and significant to the dynamic healthcare field. The degree also satisfies the need for managers and supervisory efforts in healthcare.

The healthcare field is growing with the emergence of new roles and complicated roles in the healthcare system. There is also a growing need for professional care coordination as opposed to traditional care coordination methods owing to the technology and career advancements today. The degree thus bridges the leadership gap and offers individuals opportunities to explore leadership and management as they advance their careers.

New Knowledge Gained Through the Research

From the research, I have learned that individuals who attain the degree I am enrolled in can choose to do advanced degrees (master’s degrees) in various other fields. Some of these degrees are Master in Health Sciences in Clinical Research, Health Sciences in Health Care Management, Health Sciences in International Health, Health Sciences in Public Health, Business Administration in Health Care Administration, and Master of Business Administration in Health Care Management.

In addition, I have learned that the degree is more inclined toward healthcare services management and leadership in patient care delivery. The course entails various leadership and advanced care considerations for various healthcare professionals. So, the degree is more of an advancement in the current field, not an entirely new course.

The course adds to professionals’ knowledge and equips professionals with baccalaureate knowledge and skills to help them succeed in their roles. For example, nurses who acquire the degree have the knowledge and skills to coordinate care at the unit or institution level. Nurses can lead quality improvement projects and be in top leadership positions in the hospital, and the course equips them with the needed knowledge and skills.

According to labor statistics, the healthcare field is expected to grow by 19% by 2024, with new roles and responsibilities emerging beyond nurses, doctors, pharmacists, nutritionists, and other common traditional roles (Bakker, 2018). Some new functions, such as nursing informaticists, have emerged lately and are slowly diffusing in the healthcare field. With a BS degree, an individual can explore various professionals beyond healthcare into nursing education.

The skills also allow a professional to function in rescue and emergency management teams outside the healthcare facility. Individuals who choose to master business administration can also indulge in managing healthcare enterprises (Learn.org, n.d.). Higher education can also help one secure a role as a nurse educator. Nursing education and other careers outside the facility are eye-openers in career development. This knowledge is mind-blowing and will significantly influence my studies and career.

How The Information will Influence Studies and Future Career

According to Rasmussen et al. (2018), knowledge of courses and their career opportunities is vital to professional planning and development. In turn, professional development planning enhances career success and identity as a nurse (Rasmussen ET AL., 2018). The information learned will be useful in searching for jobs and advancing my studies.

Understanding the roles and careers open with the training helps narrow down and employ purposive job application and advancement in a career based on the degree and the primary degree. The degree intends to advance the primary degree, and the knowledge gained will help select courses that advance degrees and lead to professional and personal development.

The course widens the area of expertise and increases the choice of careers. From the research, I learned that the degree equips one with the knowledge and skills to work outside the healthcare facility and will explore the possibility of working outside the healthcare facility.

Other areas to consider include business enterprises in healthcare, management of other healthcare teams, rescue teams, and participation in nursing education. Lamb et al. (2018) state that nurses are equipped with the knowledge and skills to work in leadership positions outside of healthcare facilities. Understanding the career opportunities and the course has positively impacted my thinking and will significantly influence my future career choices and studies advancement.
